Alloy Furnace¶
The Alloy Furnace mixes exact amounts of metals and additives into alloys. Early recipes make alloy blends such as
Bronze Blend and
Steel Blend, which you then smelt in a Furnace. Stronger setups unlock direct-ingot recipes that skip the blend step, and late alloys such as Tungstensteel are only made this way.
The Alloy Furnace runs on FE and needs a Heat Core and an Alloy Crucible installed. Like every RNGTech machine, each Alloy Furnace you craft rolls its own rarity and affixes, and it can level up through Machine Mastery.
You can read an Alloy Furnace from the outside. The installed Alloy Crucible sits in a refractory well wrapped in copper induction coils. While the furnace has a recipe, a pool fills the crucible as the charge melts and drops back when the alloy pours, glowing with the crucible's heat. Each input slot has a feed hopper on the back cabinet that shows the item in it, and hoppers past the furnace's input slots are closed with a lid. An installed Servo is a stirrer over the crucible that turns while the furnace works. Facing the front, the Heat Core is the finned radiator on the left and the Battery Cell stands in the cradle on the right with its charge meter. The gas cylinder at the front left corner is the Nitrogen tank: its window shows how full it is, and its valve lights up while the crucible uses Nitrogen. The bar on the front console reads like the heat bar on the Process tab: it fills with the crucible's heat against the Heat Core's Max Temperature, a white mark shows the recipe's target and a yellow mark the setpoint, and the fill turns red while the crucible overheats. A crucible pushed past its target flickers with its wobble. The cable port is on the back.
Obtaining¶
Crafting¶
Each chassis has its own recipe. You do not need a Furnace or an earlier Alloy Furnace to craft one.
Breaking¶
Mine a placed Alloy Furnace with a pickaxe. It drops itself and keeps its rolled traits and Mastery progress. Items inside it, including installed Gear, drop next to it.
Usage¶
Alloying¶
Put the recipe's ingredients in the input slots. Each recipe needs a set count of each ingredient, but the slot order does not matter. Extra units are fine and feed the next crafts, but every item in the input slots must belong to the recipe: one stray item stops the machine. The Alloy Furnace then heats up and starts mixing only once it reaches the recipe's target temperature. While it is out of input or out of power, it cools down. A full output slot pauses it with its heat and progress kept. Swapping an input for a different item mid-craft restarts the craft.
Each recipe also has a minimum stage. Both the chassis and the installed Alloy Crucible must reach that stage, so late alloys need a Titanium setup. The machine's max heat must also reach the recipe's target temperature. On recipes that cannot fail, its Temperature Stability must meet the recipe's requirement, or the craft does not start. See Heat for how it heats, what the FE pays for, and the overheat slider.
Your first Bronze does not need an Alloy Furnace. 3 Copper Dust, 1 Tin Dust, and 1 Coal Dust make 2 Bronze Blend in a crafting grid, in any arrangement. Once you have a Bronze Alloy Furnace, it makes more Bronze Blend from the same dusts plus Charcoal, and it can already make a slow Steel Blend bootstrap recipe.
Stage 4 and higher recipes with a failure output build up failure strain when heat or stability is off, or when power drops mid-craft on power-sensitive recipes. When strain fills, the craft fails and outputs a recoverable
Malformed Ingot instead of the alloy. Smelt it in a Furnace to get two nuggets back, or keep it for the Volatile Catalyst. Of the default recipes, only Nullite and Tungstensteel can fail.
Stages¶
| Stage | Alloy Furnace | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| 3 | First Alloy Furnace. Makes Bronze and Steel blends. | |
| 4 | Midgame chassis with Output Guard. | |
| 6 | Advanced chassis with Output Guard. Runs the late direct-ingot alloys. |
Output Guard means the machine avoids working while its output is blocked. Every Alloy Furnace already keeps its progress and heat while the output slot is full.
With a Batch Size above 1, the Alloy Furnace crafts several whole recipe sets in one cycle: a batch of 3 needs three times every ingredient. A batch takes as many sets as the input slots hold and the output has room for, up to the Batch Size. Each extra set makes the cycle longer by the Batch Overhead, 25% of one craft's time to start with. Every set still absorbs its own heat and earns its own XP, and a bigger batch takes a bigger heat dip when it goes in. A failed batch ruins every set in it.
Gear¶
The Gear tab has four slots. No Gear can be a higher stage than the chassis.
- Heat Core (required): sets how hot the Alloy Furnace can get.
- Alloy Crucible (required): sets how many input slots are active and adds mixing control.
- Battery Cell (optional): adds portable FE storage.
- Servo (optional): adds control stats.
| Alloy Crucible | Stage | Input slots |
|---|---|---|
| 3 | 3 | |
| 4 | 3 | |
| 6 | 4 |
Automation¶
| Side | Behavior |
|---|---|
| Top | Inserts into the active input slots. Accepts only Alloy Furnace recipe ingredients, and never lets one ingredient fill a slot another ingredient needs; see Automation. |
| Bottom | Extracts finished output. Ingredient leftovers are pushed into the inventory below; see Automation. |
| Sides | Accepts FE, for example from a Universal Cable. |
| Any | Accepts Nitrogen for the Nitrogen atmosphere. |
Gear slots cannot be filled by automation.
Mastery and Ascendancies¶
Completed alloy crafts earn Alloy Furnace Mastery XP, and you spend the points on the shared Machine Mastery tree, starting from the same point as the Furnace. Failures, stalled heat, blocked output, and power-starved ticks earn nothing. Alloy Furnaces choose between the Metallurgist and Blendwright ascendancies.
The heat keystones cap Max Temperature, and every alloy needs at least 900 heat. Flash Annealing caps it at 1,000 heat, which leaves four recipes in the recipe table, and gives 100% more Processing Speed with 50% more Energy Usage. Low Heat Specialist caps it at 800 heat, which is below every alloy, and its savings only work on the Furnace, so an Alloy Furnace with it allocated cannot craft anything.
Quench Protocol halves the temperature failure strain the Alloy Furnace takes, for 25% less Heat Transfer.
Metallurgist Flux only saves a unit of an ingredient the recipe needs two or more of, so every input is still used. On a tie, it saves the ingredient listed first in the recipe.
Alloy Furnace recipes¶
The Alloy Furnace uses its own recipe type, rngtech:alloy_furnace. Mode tells you whether a recipe makes a blend or a finished ingot. The desiccant recipe makes Supercharged Silica Gel Beads for the Silica Gel Dehumidifier.

Screen¶
The Alloy Furnace screen has five tabs:
- Process: input and output slots, progress, energy, live heat, failure strain on recipes that can fail, and the Nitrogen gauge at the right edge. Status squares show the recipe state and whether the heat target is met. Hover for exact values. The progress tooltip also shows time remaining and expected items per minute with your Gear and Mastery applied (chance bonuses such as Super Output are not counted). With an ascendancy, a thin line under the progress bar shows Flux or blend-ledger progress, and Master Blend shows a recipe-disabled status on direct-ingot recipes.
- Gear: Heat Core, Alloy Crucible, Battery Cell, and Servo slots.
- Stats: the machine's current stats, including traits, Gear, and Mastery.
- Refinement: refine the placed Alloy Furnace's traits with a catalyst.
- Mastery: machine XP, level, and the passive tree.
